I like those. I've used little panfish soft plastic jigs with my fly rod, but haven't tied a lot on the small 90 degree freshwater hooks. My most productive saltwater pattern I tie on a 60 degree size 4 Mustad duratin hook.

The flea fly is the most effective for crappie; for brim the cap spider, and for big redear and largemouth bass the hair jig is the most effective. I fish the flea fly usually with a strike indicator around the banks and brush when crappie are shallow; I usually fish a sink tip with a florecarbon furled leader to get the little fly down to the fish-p-

Nice flies pearow. I use small jig flies quite a bit. In addition to the near deer, I have come up with a few other patterns. One of my favorites is basically a woolly bugger but I use a small strip of rabbit zonker instead of marabou. Here is one with a grizzly-dyed strip and grizzly hackle. I also have had a lot of luck with olive and white variants, sometimes with hackle and sometimes with no hackle. Here is a new one that I hope to try on white bass this weekend. Don't have a name for it, but it is tied only with coyote. I saw a really nice coyote tail at Barlow's the other day and since it was $8, it came home with me. The tail of the fly is tied using the guard hairs, while the body is dubbed using a mix of coyote mask and underfur. I bought the tail so I could tie saltwater flies, but if I get good results this weekend, I will use it for freshwater flies as well.

Good ones! I take the narrow pine squirrel zonkers and leave about an inch for the tail and then palmer the zonker to the head. This makes a very nice hair jig. In fact the dark olive pine squirrel zonkers are used to make my favorite hair jig. Your coyote jig gave me an idea to use a fox tail I've had for ages.-p-
