Here is a variant of the Griffith's Gnat to try for Bluegill - Griffith's Gnat on a Caddis Hook. It's simple and few material is needed. Used a Caddis Hook and Olive Tying Thread; did not have any dry fly hooks or black tying thread.

Cold front came and changed the pattern slightly.... noticed bugs flying about and ripples in the water where something was feeding on them. Seen this happen in the past after a cold front passes and things start to warm up. A hatch occurs and the Bass and Bluegill start feeding on them. Had a Griffith's Gnat on a Caddis Hook handy. Made a difference this round, catching a few, missing a few, having fun with all of them!

Found a dry fly pattern that worked at Bethany this afternoon.... Lucked out having this pattern in the fly box else would have struck out. Need to bring a net and charge the camera battery up more... posted report/video. No action shots, battery died right when we found the right fishing fly! Also, had trouble landing the trout without a net, tended to pull the hook out when lifting the them out of the water.

Very nice. Anything with peacock herl and grizzly hackle should catch fish and the curved caddis hook is a nice variation that gives you a bigger hook gap. Glad it's working for you.

Its a great allround fly pattern. I use one a lot for lakes when trout are taking hatching midge

Heard there was rain in the forecast for today, so went fishing yesterday... was able to hook up with several nice size Bluegill ans Shellcracker that were taking the COAF Griffith's Gnat! Yesterday's Video.

Ran out of Griffith's Gnat this morning while fishing for stocked trout; lost them to tree snags while casting - lots of trees around the pond we fished this morning.

A quick look at the fly box turned up a PMC Emerger Variant that we have used with success in other places. Tied one on and was able to get three more trout to make a limit.

Trout were moving about and feeding on the surface this morning. After working different parts of the pond, settled in on the "point" and was able to sight cast to passing schools.
