This has been a good pattern for a variety of onshore species and situations. Weight can be adjusted with using various dumbbells as can size. Lately, this color scheme has been working well. Tail is craft fur or Steve Farrar. Pearl Estaz, eyelash yarn, and I add a thin collar of white EP.

Very cool variation. A little imagination can go a long way; love it.

First let me admit that I have a problem (well , several) in that I am always getting carried away and over dressing flies, that and seldom being able to leave a good thing alone.. I know that one can always do whatever blows your dress up... But would you think that it would hurt to add a short read beard? or a little red nail polish like on the 2nd from left under / behind the eyes? I am a novice to saltwater flies and maybe a little addition could ruin the whole white fly thing? All my trout flies in days gone bye were as close an imitation of the one in book as possible. The whole Clouser / Deceiver / Half& Half flies seem to encourage creativity.. I can't help myself anymore..

I have piles of flies I tied that I don't like. I tinker with materials and try to make something better, but often I make something worse. I bet I've tied many more terrible flies than good ones. I can always go back to something safe like a Clouser or deceiver. My shrimp fly has its origins in Casey Smartt's shrimp pattern.
