One of my favorite and most effective open water and surf patterns is a bait fish streamer made from one material, Steve Farrar blend. The material holds up to toothy fish well and looks great in,the water.

Just make a dubbing loop and a thin brush and wrap forward. Add a back of a contrasting color of SF, your favorite eyes, a little uv cure, a snip here or there for unruly pieces and it's done.

I went and complicated the pattern by tying in a 3mm Pyrex rattle on top of the shank, put a little lead wire on the leading edge to invert hook point and the other steps remain the same. I fish some inverted hook point patterns with rattles and weight added like this, but this is new for the SF baitfish.

The wet test. Steve Farrar blend produces a baitfish that is translucent vs EP or Craft fur more opaque nature. The Steve Farrar blend isn't bulky making for a fly that casts well and slowly sinks.

I like to pool test any new or altered pattern to make sure it swims like it should. I will pool test the point up version to ensure it will truly swim point up.
