Here is another fly pattern that is simple but effective. Mimics a Damselfly or small Dragonfly that the Bass and Bluegill tend to feed on during the warmer months, especially in the late afternoon and evening. Will post more on how this one is tied but from the picture it can be easily copied. Really like it because it uses a hook, a foam body (used a foam cutter but scissors or an Exacto knife work, too), peacock herl, and rubber legs. Used it today to catch a number of Bass and Bluegill! Here is Today's Video.... fishing fly worked well!

Cooler temps today; glad to see the fish did not mind when taking the Foam Damsel Fly. Enjoyed some top water action this evening! Not sure what tomorrow brings... frost warning in May? Go figure! Today's Video.

Foam Damsel Fly still working despite the cool temps this morning. Went fishing this evening and caught 13 Bass and several Bluegill... largest Bass did go 14" in size. Lots of fun, especially liking the top water action with the Foam Damsel Fly! Today's Video.

Lots of Dragonflies hovering about today; Perfect time to use a Foam Damsel Fly. Caught seven Bass; no Bruisers but still fun to catch! Today's Video.

Worked a Foam Damsel Fly in the algae pockets and shoreline. Managed to hook into three Bass, and then caught one on a Tube Popper Fly!

Thanks for sharing the pattern. There were dragonflies everywhere this evening. Several different colors. I also noticed a large number of brown grasshoppers around the pond I was fishing.

OK, now I can start the learning process. I tied this as my first fly. I actually tied this on a size 6 aberdeen hook as I thought it would be much easier for me to learn with a slightly bigger hook. Also, My printer wasn't working so I had to just cut the foam pattern by hand. The problems with fly construction were probably many but there were a couple of problems that you may be able to help me with.

1) The nose of the fly sunk down in the water

2) The legs didn't spreadout well.

All thoughts are welcome as it will help me to learn quicker.

1. Use a size 12 streamer hook; size 6 is too heavy.

2. Tighten the thread wrap for the legs to spread out more.

Tighten the thread wrap is a new term to me. What does that mean?

pull on the thread as you wrap the legs... they should spread more. If not, then use a looser wrap and see if the legs spread more. Else, not sure what is happening.

Started fishing with a Foam Damsel Fly and caught Bluegill, Sunfish, and Bass. Did lose one to a decent Bass that broke the tippet. Later, switched to a Tube Popper Fly. Missed several nice looking fish; too slow on the hookset. But, did get two Bass! Fun stuff! Today's Video
