Anyone ever camp there? Fish the lake?...We are looking for somewhere new to go for our spring family camping trip... I had never heard of the lake and Its less than 2 hours from the house.I'm looking for a safe place where the kids can ride bicycles and play, And I can pull the boat up to the camp. Thanks.

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

Nice state park. Been a few years though so I may be a little fuzzy on the details. One thing I do remember is don't allow your GPS to guide you. Wound up turning a 32 foot motor home around on a 2 lane country road.
It was very peaceful. My kids rode their bikes around and I fished the banks a little. Wife and inlaws enjoyed walking the park.
Vaughan's Catfish is excellent. Wear some stretchy pants because they have all you can eat.
Hit up Pittsburg hotlinks while you are in the area. They can be an acquired taste but I grew up on them. They also have burgers and frito pie type stuff.

Plenty of screened-in cabins and RV hookups . Nice pond they stock with Rainbow trout (in the winter) and channel cats . The pier is a hot spot for Crappie and Sandbass this time of year if you can find room to fish from it . I'm biased but it's a nice lake . Bob Sandlin

I meant to behave, but there were too many other options.

There are also some nice bike trails in the park.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

You will like it there. Camped there many times over the years but now it has been a few years since I've been there. Lots of safe bike trails. Fishing from shore also they have a fishing pier near the boat ramp. They have a pretty nice swim beach if the water is warm enough.

There are also some nice bike trails in the park. Thanks to all for the info on Bob sandlin, however due to circumstances with ailing, aging parents, we chose to camp at Martin creek again... We had a wonderful time, and caught a lot of crappie, bass and some good cats on our jug lines, Martin creek is only fifteen minutes from home and very convenient. We are still looking to get further away and broaden our horizons. Next time We would like to make a trip to the middle or upper coast, if any one has a suggestion on a state park or something like one, that has screen shelters and good beach access I'd appreciate the info....thanks again.
