Just curious, on average, how long does it take to tye a jig? Mine is about 10 minutes. I know it's long, but it's my average. ... Just curious. ..

Not counting pouring and painting, usually do a bunch at one time, I would say seven to ten minutes depending on materials. If it is a straight one color no frills and I'm warmed up kinda deal about two or three minutes.

Usually takes me longer to get all the materials ready, than it does to tie the jigs.

If the feathers and flash are out & ready, the correct chennele is on the bench and the heads are painted/ready to go?? I will guess right around 2 min.

Agree with REDGUN! Taking out feathers and cutting them as prep for tying takes a good bit of time and same thing when you change tail colors. Now if am ready to tie with materials all ready, I do cut my flash strips ahead so I cut a whole package at one time. Also there are more than one way to tie in flash, there is a fast way and then their is my way which is each side is tied in individually and some go for speed and just tie in a longer piece of flash and double it over and wrap. So my slower way if I am using flash I will average a jig every 2 minutes or so, but no flash I will average one just a tiny bit over 1 minute. However this is only a big advantage when tying a number of the same color pattern. So the more of a jig I can tie without changing like when I do 100 for one guy that are all the same I can usually get that faster than I can say 10 jigs of different color and doing 10 each of them. That will take longer. So when guys talk about how long it takes to tie a jig there are a lot of ways to look at that too!

One other little factor is if one is trying to go as fast as they can or if there are really trying on each and every jig to make it as well made as they can. That will also make a difference in how long it takes to tie a jig. I believe if feathers are cut and no flash I am sure that I can tie a jig in a good bit less than one minute on one that all goes as I want it to. I say that because I am a perfectionist and if a tail is not wanting to look right after I have it tied in, I will take that sucker back off and re-do it again and again to get it right! So that even makes it more difficult to say how long it takes, LOL! I know there has been jigs that I had to tie the darn tail in 4 or more times! By the time I get one of them done, I am not happy at all!

For over 40 years I was in the full line baits and can tell you no one knows. I think that if you keep your time for a month or what ever, and see how many jigs the time puts out you would know. But to get what you are looking for you would have to count all time that it takes. To really understand this also add cost plus the value of jigs to see where you are. I think we are all getting rich.
