So on the TPWD website the fishing report for Ray Roberts says as of April 8 crappie are good using jigs on brush piles but where does this come from? I haven't seen many on here say anything about having luck on brush piles and my experience so far has definitely not ran concurrent to their findings. Now by all means I am far from an awesome angler but am I missing something? This post is definitely a curiosity not a complaint I have the utmost respect and confidence in TPWD just again wondering if anyone has some insight?

I really have no clue, but this week when I was out I saw a pontoon boat tied up fishing 2 days running and I think a long time. I also know where they were tied up there is no shallow water and they were a good ways off the bank, probably at least 75 yards? All water from 10 yards from the bank out to where they are is 20' or more. Everyone else is on the bank or close or on a flat. NOw I have been wondering what the heck they were doing ever sicne the first time I saw them, LOL! I did see some balls of shad and what I think was crappie or some fish in a creek near them so maybe they were fishing a brush pile????

I have a hard timme believing that, but I have been ssurprised many times before so woulkd not shock me if I am wrong again!

The fishing report this week for Lake Proctor says channel and blue catfish are fair on live shad in 20-30 feet of water. When the lake is full max depth is 28 feet and we are almost 13 feet low right now. I don't know where they get their info from, but it does seem to be incorrect a good bit of the time. That being said I check the report every week.

Outlawelectric I check that thing everyday lol regardless. Skip-48 I've seen some similar situations and don't get me wrong I'm not a spot stealer or anything of the sort but curiosity got the best of me and Id cruise by about a 100-200 ft away and see if they were fishing brush piles on the side scan and 3 of the 4 were not surprisingly. I've done a whole lot of cruising around with the side scan hunting brush piles finding more than I even cared to mark from one end of the lake to the other and have yet to see or catch anything off any of em. Of course I could be the worst fisherman in the world too lol but there's bound to be one or two depressed lil fish down there that'd surrender to me Id think.

I have always wondered where the TPWD gets the information they use for the fishing reports.

I always check the fishing reports for Somerville. Have they ever helped me catch fish? No. Have I gone out when the fishing was suppose to be really good and come in empty handed? Oh Ya... Do I trust the reports anymore? No....

I was told by a guide that he was contracted by TPW to report fishing activity etc.. But heck he can't be fishing for all species of fish being reported? I'm at a lost ... General overview I guess . I have wore em out when reports show slow and vise versa .

A half truth is usually less than half of that !

In any case if I had to judge whether the report is wrong or I am wrong id put my money on the report being right and me not fishing right lol.
