Greetings and Salutations to all my fellow hunters, fishermen, and other liars. Here is one of my grandfather's recipes (in his own words.) I've always had great success with this. I would like to know your favorite chum recipes. Any response is appreciated...

Redneck Rotgut Catfish Chum #4

Step 1: Make yerself a chicken wire basket bout three foot long and 1 to 2 foot deep. Any wire basket can be used. I just find this more cost effective.

Step 2: Throw yer basket, yer brother-in-law (or fishin buddy), a shovel, and a cooler of coldbeer in the back of yer pick-up. The coldbeer is for your brother-in-law. Dont drive drunk.

Step 3: Drive down some farm roads and find some fresh roadkill. AVOID SKUNKS! I found that coons, possums, rabbits, and armidillars work the best. Snakes dont work too bad either.

Step 4: Have yer brother-in-law hold the basket while you dump the splattered animals in with the shovel. Try not to spill any on yer boots. By this time, yer friend should be good and drunk. If not, repeat step 3 before trying this. Make sure he rides in the back of the pick-up on the way home.

Step 5: Fill the rest of the basket with dry dog food, and have your friend squarsh it down. The basket should be packed full and closed real good.

Step 6: Hang the basket on a fence or a tree. Make sure the basket is closed real tight and tied down. Its also a good idea to put it as far away from the house as possible.

Step 7: Give yer friend a bar of Lava soap, and hose him off. If the temperature is cold, a bottle of Jack Daniels might be required.

Step 8: Let your basket hang till it gets good and ripe. This takes 3 to 7 days dependin on the weather. YOULL KNOW WHEN ITS READY!

Step 9: Wrap it up in a couple plastic garbage bags for transport. Make sure the basket is still tied together good and tight.

How to use Redneck Rotgut Catfish Chum #4

Tie off around docks, trees, snags, and flooded vegetation in 4 to 12 foot of water on the bottom. Cast bait close to the basket. This chum will last for a couple of weeks dependin on the current. REMOVE ALL YOUR TRASH AND THE CHUMBASKET WHEN YOU LEAVE.

That's disgusting.

If you want to make a good chum without getting into roadkill and maggots...just visit your local feed store and buy a large bag of milo or corn. Put the corn into 5 gallon containers and fill with water until you see the water above the grain. Add some cheap beer to speed the fermentation. Add a lid and let sit in the sun for a couple of weeks. Take the bucket to the lake or whatever hole you fish in and pitch out a few scoops. If you do this every day or every other day you will get so many catfish around that area that you will need a truck to take them home in.

Forget the roadkill...that's really sick.

WHEN YOU USE THE MILO TO SOUR ALSO PUT IN SEVERAL BOTTLES OF ORANGE SODAWATER INSTEAD OF THE BEER.ORANGE WORKS ON CATS LIKE RED SODA DOES ON CARP. BUY GOOD BEER AND DRINK IT INSTEAD.FROZEN ORANGE CONST. WOORKS BEST.

Orange soda might entice the cats but it won't speed the souring of the grain. The beer was to speed firmentation. Another trick is to leave a little soured grain in the bucket before you add more fresh grain. The already sour grain has lots of firmentation already so it speeds things along.

Don't get this stuff on you, it bleaches your clothes, boat carpet, anything else.

I THOUGHT THE REASON TO SOUR MILO, WHEAT OR OTHER GRAIN WAS TO CATCH CATFISH? NOT TO SEE HOW FAST THE GRAIN WOULD FIRMENT,MABY YOU SHOULD SLOW DOWN AND MABY YOU COULD CATCH MORE FISH AND HAVE CLEANER CLOTHES ALSO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Firmentation happens. It's not the goal but you can't get there without souring the grain first. I am not making liquor, but if you let the grain sit long enough, it becomes like alcohol.

Adding sour grain to fresh grain will help to sour the fresh grain. That's my point. I catch plenty of catfish bernie...!!!!???
