Getting in more catfishing lately as I continue to learn, had some success with a few eater channel cat from the bank at the Vine yesterday...

Oddly I did have a few fresh shad but they seemed to prefer the chicken breast. It was getting bit while nothing would touch the shad. Strange huh?

But what I wanted to ask about was by catch in your throw net, I got a 4.5 largemouth in my cast net lol.

Thats the first time I have got a bass much less a big one. Is this common? What odd things have you got in your net?

Caught everything in the lake at least once. 100 baby channel cats was the worst, a big gar will ruin a net, and a big flathead will try to swim away with the net and you.

I've caught all kinds of thing in my net. Crappie, catfish, sandbass, LMB, carp, etc...

I would say the craziest thing was a gar. A very large gar. I was throwing my net up by some rip rap while my brother in law parked the boat trailer. Couple of throws with nothing, then the third or fourth throw my net got stuck on something, which is fairly common. I give it a good pull and all of a sudden, it pulls back!!! I could tell immediately it was something huge. So I started pulling the monster in. When I got it up near the boat, I saw it was an alligator gar that was easily 6-7ft long based on the size of the boat. I was kind of in panic mode, wanted to get it into the boat just cause its cool and I wanted some pictures. But I was alone and not thinking clearly. The net landed right on his head and he was pretty well caught up in it. Thought I could just heave him up onto the boat but I underestimated his weight. Didn't even get him half way out of the water before he thrashed his head and ripped through the net.

The fish was gone, my net was toast, and we didn't have any bait to fish. The end.

Found a hole so full it would can be the water depth on the depth finder. First throw full of shad and a few catfish.

Second throw was all catfish, ruined the net.Two of us could not lift it into the boat.

I have caught many sand bass, drum, a few gar, stripers, a rod and reel, and once a net full of 4" catfish. I debated on just throwing the net into the lake and cutting the rope off.

Tossed in and caught 2-3 buffalo all in the 20-30 lb range once in a single throw, Other than that Ive caught carp, striper, drum, bullheads, crappie, etc. pretty much any fish you can name except gar. I will say theyre a handy tool, I have bought minnows or catfish bait in three years.

I caught a goldfish last year that musta weighed 3 lbs. It made me wonder how big they can get in the wild.

I've caught a small flathead, 2-3 pound bluecats, crappie(12 or so in one throw one time), snakes, turtles, beer cans, carp and or buffalo. Biggest was a Buffalo around 10 pounds. Catch small bass 2-10 inches fairly often. Caught a gar or two. One was about 8 inches.

Just recently caught 2 two foot long gar and 5 sandbass in one toss of a 5 foot net. it really surprised me that they would co-mingle like that.
