I was marking fish Sunday down around 50’ at bottom. We was in the process of looking for hybrid to dead stick and decided to just drop down and see what would happen. There’s was a lot of fish in a pretty good area we was moving around in. We got hit several times and finally I hooked up and kept one on to the boat and it was drum. Then my buddy did the same and it too was drum. Was wondering if it was a massive concatenation of drum or just a few and maybe rest of those was cats? I’ve heard in winter they get deep like that and if so how would I go about catching them?

Yeah there was smaller balls scattered from 5’ to the bottom as we moved around using tm. At the bottom the screen would show a cluster bait and fish up to about maybe 5-7’ from the floor when we’d go over or they’d come by. The hybrid and sand bass was 20’ or less. There’s also been a shad die off but water has gotten back up to the upper 40’s to 50.

I've run into that scenario before. finally found the cats further up the dam. Caught 3 10 pound carp throwing for shad. Threw again and caught 2 more. This was a few years ago.

I wasn’t far from the dam. Maybe 100 yards right next to main creek channel running to it. I’m a bass guy but this time of year I’ll try new things to pass time lol.

I bet most were drum. Drum get in HUGE schools on the winter in deep water. Since both of ya caught one AND you didn’t catch anything else I’m saying drum,

Yeah that’s what I kinda figured. I said let’s try to catch one more and see then boom. There was our one more. We had a couple on a few times that got off. Real light bite on Gulp shad. Just hoping we could could catch some easy big cats in that spot.
