I wanted to know if this will work I have never tried it being that I usually just go to a spot anchor up and throw lines out...any tips or your feedback is appreciated. I usually fish crappie on Granger but at this time of year I switch to catfish. I wanted to try this new technique to see how it works.
I was going to set my lines out 3 in front and 3 in back in my rod holders straight down using cut bait either perch, bluegill, or shad nice chunks like half dollar coin size pieces. On the main lake channel ledge drop off on Granger it drops from like 12 fow to 30 fow I was doing to set up and slow troll down the middle of that drop off that goes for a mile or so just slow troll with the Xi5 at .5 keeping those chunks down a few feet off the bottom with boat control staying in the 20-25 area of that drop off. I would go down one side and back the other side of the main lake channel.
Based on your opinion and at this time of year do you think that would be a successful technique for big blue cats?
God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:28

Steve Douglas sure has luck doing that. I'd throw a few off the back to drag too if there's not much to hang up on. If the fish are there, it will put them in the boat. Good luck out there and report back after you try it.

I've done it with lakes that have deeper water, If it is deeper than 20' it is a good method to use. If you have a good sonar where you can mark the fish you can get right on top of them. I've only done good with this if there is little to know wind, I've tried it on windier days but I seemed to battle boat control more than what it was worth. You have to watch your sonar because if there are humps or brush you will have to adjust all your lines so you don't get hung up and make a big mess with all your lines. Also if you get a big fish on it will at times run under the boat and get other lines tangled but I never mind retying a few if that meant me battling a big blue. It is not my first method of fishing but it does work on the right situation so good luck to you if you choose to try it.

We use a drift sock. Been fishing like that on Granger for over 28 years.
