I tried adjusting the airflow and the gas flow but I am still getting an orange flame. I am assuming that the oil not get hot enough. Is this a good assumption? Any ideas on how to fix it or should I assume it is time for a new fryer?

1st check for dirt dauber inside burner then air hose the heck out of it

You need a thermometer so you will know if the oil is getting hot enough. I have a burner that has an orange flame, but it still gets plenty hot for frying fish.

I ended up using an indoor fryer.

Mine will do that when it gets low on propane.

A build up of spider webs or insect nests will cause the same problem. The water hose with jet nozzle should correct the problem.

The little mud dobber bugs that plug up the water outlet hole on a boat motor will plug a burner or regulator I have had them even plug the bipass hole on a air press. your best bet is to remove your burner and blow it out. Be sure to blow it from the burner back through the air inlet. If you can get the air adjustment off try running a small wire brush through it.

I bet if you blow it out good you will have a pretty blue flame.
