Well, finally getting to get back on the water. I went with a buddy yesterday evening. He wanted to use his boat instead of mine, which no problem, mine has not ran sense April 3. We did catch a lot of catfish, but no size to them. Caught 32 cats and only kept 7. We hit 5 different spots and they must all been the kindergarten classes. I guess we caught the teachers.
Lake level is about 5.5' up and they were releasing water. Should of been fishing below the dam. Water temp was right at 70 degrees on my buddies fish finder. For bait we were using CJ's shad and fresh cut shad. Half and half on the bite per bait. We fished from 1' of water to 12' of water with catching cats at every spot. Using cork and tight line also. Average cat size was about 10". 7 keepers were from 15" to 18". Felt good to catch some cats anyway. They are dropping the lake pretty fast so that might have a effect on the bigger cats right now. With this rain today and tomorrow, if we get enough, they should close the gates. A raising lake will set those big cats off to biting again. Hopefully, we will do good Sat morning.
