A friend of mine was telling me his granddad used alfalfa bales to bait catfish in. Just curious if there is anything to it?

i once hear a few older custers tell me they used bails of hay to do the same in chest deep water when they were younger i reallythougt nothing of it as they were alway telling the most outlandish tales of fishing. ever time we go out. i just that it was an other tall tail i have never heard of it but iould make good cover for ambushing seller fish that it pulled in so i dont see why it wont work just the same as a log tor a tree roots and stumps

It's supposed to attract minners and small sunfish, which in turn draws cats and other predator fish.

Tried that once YEARS ago with a bale of hay. It took a ton of concrete to sink it then a day or two later I found the bale floating a half mile away. With the cost of alfalfa, just get a 50lb. bag of range cubes.
Common carp 26 Goldfish 9.78lb Mirror Koi 14lb Koi 16lb Channel Catfish 26lbs Blue Cat 30lb Bass 9.5lb

20% cubes in my perch trap will be almost completely melted in 2 hours. I believe they attract minners and small fish even shad which in turn draws in the bigger fish. They work for me. Soured grain works faster so I use both in the boat.

range cubes will attract both carp and catfish, takes a little longer for the catfish but if you bait a spot regularly with range cubes the channel cats will be there waiting for you. Im sure the alfalfa bale does the same, but I dont have any experience with it....but range cubes obviously easier to deal with you just can just toss em out by hand and they sink.

No question range cubes take longer to disperse in the water than sour grain. Soured grain brings them in quick and the range cubes will help to hold the there longer. I like to bait my holes the day before then again when I fish it.
