Just kind of started getting into cat fishing since I am not very good at bass fishing ha ha.

My question is about cleaning channels for the table. After thinking I knew how to, I realized I sucked at that also and went to you tube to get some tips.

Think I found a method that will work for me... My question is this; I see almost all the guys on you tube use a special pair of pliers to skin the cats, are those critical or would a reg. pair of pliers work as well?

I ordered a pair online since they were only like $5. Just wondering if these are going to make a difference ?

Any input on how yall clean your fish would be welcome.

Thanks.

Get you a good filet knife and Just filet them like a normal fish, way easier then pulling the skin off.

The skinning pliers will make it much easier than normal pliers. I still use normal pliers when I remove the dorsal fin. I just grab it and roll it up towards the head. You can fillet them like a normal fish but also run the risk of cutting through the skin while you are learning to do it which triples the time of cleaning them then. To each their own, I prefer to skin mine out and the skinning pliers make it much easier.

I just picked up a new knife; I had an old junky one that looked like to cost $3 when it was new.

It did not work well.

Got a Rapala one for $15 that looks like it will do the job nicley so next time that well hopefully help.

When filleting, and you cut through the skin, a fork is your best friend.

Pliers for skinning, I use lineman's pliers. Wide and close flat.

I prefer to cut the fillet off and then grab w/ skinning pliers and remove the skin afterwards. Kind of like David Hansen.

Just need to get good at filleting , I filet them I don't cut through the skin and I just use a regular sharp kitchen filet knife.

Learn to fillet them, it's the best and fastest way to clean the eaters.
