Just starting to get into catching cats and was wondering what rigs are best for catching cats off the bank. I'll be going to Belton Lake (Cowhouse creek) and plan on using fresh shrimp, chicken liver, Cjs monster bait and some live bluegills.

I try to use the least amount of weight possible..I find the fish take the bait better. Even just a hook and line is effective in still water.

I would rig carolina or drop-loop with sinker on bottom ...from the bank i have used from 8ft rods all the way to 13ft rods the longer the rod thwe farther the cast
If it ain't broke don't fix it...but go ahead and work on it anyway.....

When I fish up in the Cowhouse ares i use fresh shad or punch bait. But I am fishing from a boat. Good luck on Belton it can be a tuff lake to fish.

I think a good place to start would be getting a cast net and learning to throw it. Fresh shad or bluegill are tough baits to beat. However with what you are using I would say a Carolina or Slip Cork rig. If you get into fresh caught bait Santee Cooper, Carolina, and three way are the ways to go.
Thanks, Olen

Carolina rig is good for all those baits you listed. I would also recommend a three way rig for your livers and bluegills.
Everyone should believe in something; I believe Ill go fishing.

I like using a 3 way swivel to keep my bait a couple inches off the bottom. Use a 5/0 Gama circle and enjoy
