Thanks Tim, I talked to another Fiberglass guy, he told me the boat is not worth what it would cost to get him to fix it, I guess they have a lot of boats they fix on insurance claims and can charge the insurance company's around $100. An hour so they don't really have to work on poor people's boats and loose money by fixing them, he could have half way done it but he was honest and didn't charge me anything, so either I have to find someone that wants to work on it on the side or I have to learn how to do it myself,
Thanks, and good luck to ya!

I repaired mine. Takes a lot of time and the fumes are crazy. Also don't even get me started when the hardener cap fell off and mixed a hot shot. A small fire may or may not have broken out.

$100 to $125 is pretty much the going rate for any type of marine service and/or repair. It sounds like a lot of money, but unless you are in the trade, you have no idea what it costs to operate a business, insurance, taxes, general operating expenses. If you are self employed like I am, you also have to pay the entire FICA yourself. Add to that the time spent ordering parts and returning bad ones, accounting costs. I pay about 30% of what I earn just in taxes. When you look at the overall grand scheme of things, $100 an hour starts to look pretty good. And, it's not just the marine industry, everyone is there also. If you make $50 a year working for someone, your employer is probably spending another $25-30K a year to pay for your benefits. I started doing sailboat rigging 20 years ago at $25 an hour. I'm doing marine air conditioning now, charging $95 an hour and still not getting rich. But it sure is fun being able to be out on the water every day.. LOL
Your best bet is to find someone who will do it on the side, but be prepared for sticker shock when you se the cost of West System epoxy, all of the hardeners and fillers and fiberglass cloth that it's going to take to do a repair.

My wife repaired a gash in the the hull of my boat caused by a bolt sticking out of the runner board. Oh did I mention she was 7 months pregnant at the time. It isn't the best looking job but the boat doesn't leak anymore. Hardest part is getting it jacked up to get under it.

I don't have a clue what I'm doing, but I am going to attempt this myself, I may wind up cutting the boat up in little pieces so it will fit in the dumpster
I appreciate your help

Did you get rid of the old brown boat? I let my Great Nephew talk me out of it 2 years ago, I think he has had it in the water twice since then, I have offered to buy it back but he won't sell it, I wouldn't have sold it if it wasn't to him!

i repaired mine, it was a lot of work but overall it was worth it. its not too hard, little bit of research on youtube goes a long way. i forgot who i was following but his build was step by step, he pretty much broke it all down. good luck to you if you decide to DIY.
