1). Caught 3 trolling a pet-spoon / hellbender combo (a first for me) on Sunday, and one of them that I filleted had meat that was bright yellow on the sides and kind of had a weird smell. What is that about? Anybody ever experienced this? Should I throw it out?

2). I kind of have the catfish itch now, anyone have any basic tips for targeting blue and/channel cats in Lake Lewisville? Live shad, dead shad? Chicken liver or stinkbait? Drifting in open water near humps/ledges, or anchoring near timber or creek channels? I kind of want to drop some live shad down and target both Hybrids and cats. Is there a rule of thumb on depth and depth of presentation?

Thanks!

The bright yellow meat is usually a channelcat.
Cats are pretty scattered but find the sandies and drift thru them. All the fish are following shad.

For this time of year, I would find a hump with fish on it. Go upwind about 50 yards, get bait in the water and drift over it. Bait was fresh cut shad. Repeat until I got no more bites, then move on to the next one.

All channelcat have yellow meat. You can pick out a channelcat fillet in a bucket of bluecat fillets

Awesome, thank you for answering all my questions. Can't wait to get back out there.

So try to set the depth of your bait a few feet off the bottom or also at the depth you are marking? Obvious question I guess... thx again!
