Father's day is a month off, but I was over on another fishing forum and a friend brought back some old memories of fishing with my dad. Daddy been gone sense 2003, but still think about him in a lot of things I do and teaching my grandson about hunting and fishing. During the summer, we would catfish on the river for up to 2 weeks straight, take a break, then start back again. He kept me busy with Little League, my chores around the place and catfishing. Daddy would always get us some lunch meat, chips and soda waters for lunch or the big thing was build a fire and roast hot dogs on a stick. We set on the river bank and fish with poles we made our self out of green small tree limbs. Of course, we had our lines out on the river, but this was done in between running lines. Older I got, we started playing dominoes you know 42. We fished like that until I graduated from high school.

My dad had a heart attack and it slowed his catfishing down. He finally got to were fishing the river was to much for him and he never really liked lake fishing, to many people. So we would go to one of the church members, and his best friend, tank. Daddy liked to catch a lot of catfish for a yearly church fry. So, he get me to fish with him for a month straight of Saturdays. By this time I was guiding for ducks and geese in Garwood/Eagle Lake area so my weekends were tied up with that and hunting and fishing shows. It was great time spent with him on that tank. One day, we had my nephew with us, daddy went into the grocery store and bought all the sandwich stuff, but I had my small bbq pit in the truck. I went and bought steak, beans and potato salad. Daddy came to the check out line and saw that, he quickly put everything back he had. Daddy had the time of his life fishing that day. Even dove in the water chasing his rod and reel that a big cat pulled in. From that day on until his stroke in 2003, we ate steak while catfishing. thumb

Feel free to share ya'lls memories of fishing with your dad.

Thanks for sharing. I never got to fish with my Dad. I will tell you that my son got all the fishing he wanted. Now my son is grown and has a high stress job located in San Diego . I had five strokes in 2011 caused by a birth defect in my heart. Now when my son comes to visit me he makes it a point to go fishing with me. I would not trade our fishing time for anything. I will tell you I don't do as well after my issues as I did before. But I will ALLWAYS go out with him as long as I can.

My Dad loved the outdoors. I did a lot of hunting and fishing with my Dad over the years. He passed away a while back but his spirit and memories I have of him will be with me forever. God truly gave me a great example to follow. thumb

Side Note: Awesome post! cheers
