Fishing/hunting buddy came up for some winter time blue fishing. We hit Lake Belton and the fish cooperated.
If you're thinking all the trophy blues are in Tawk, maybe better re-think.
Also, if you're on the sidelines about fishing the Central Texas Catfish Tournament Trail cause you think there won't be any big fish down here in Cen-Tex, well you can get some impressive weights here also. There are plenty of big blues in Belton, Waco and Richalnd Chambers. Here's a sample of what you can find. We had 17 blues, 2 channels and one yellow cat. The 3 big ones below are still swimming around for you to find. The big one went 46 3/4 inches. My friend is 6'3" so that is a big fish. We're guessing a 35, 40+ and a 60+. The rest were eaters up to 9 lbs.

I've known Jerry (big10) for a few years and his Dad for many more. They are good people and I know Jerry is excited about getting this tournament trail established. Jerry will definitely run a first class tournament.

Great fish! A buddy and I are considering fishing the Richland Chambers tournament, but it depends on how we do this weekend. This trip has been planned for a couple months, but if we do well we will definitely do another one next weekend and test our skills in a tournament setting.

Thanks,
Olen

Wow!

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Man I was out there today from 11-4pm looking for THOSE fish!

I launched and fished around Westcliff park by Kayak. Used live minnows and Walmart-dead shad.... Had 2 small channels, 3-4 okay Smallmouth. All from one spot and on minnows, nothing the rest of the day. I'm by no means experienced on Belton.

I need some serious help finding live shad, and catching said shad. And what Water depth are these cats hanging out in? Pretty please. haha

Here was my trophy cat of the day

That's some very nice fish and a good days work on ANY body of water.

I really appreciate the kind words Ken. Our goal is just what you said, to get a quality first class trail established. With the amount of response through phone calls and emails I have been receiving over the past month I believe we are on our way to a great turnout at our first event.

We were fishing 16-28 FOW. Most of the fish came from 23-27 ft.
My suggestion for Belton with the kayak, put in at BLORA and fish near the channel which runs on the BLORA side about 200-400 yds from the bank. The shad are relocating since the water temps are dropping. Gona need some electronics to find the shad. Other option is drive up Cowhouse creek and search the creek for shad. Some of the holes up there should be holding shad. Should be able to get them from the bank. You didn't do bad for Belton with a kayak. Belton can be tough to fish. Welcome to the Forum and good luck.
