I had a Chevy PU that did something similar. Mechanic said something about the coil fins that would rust and corrode. When the moisture got on them and then they got cold. It only happened when it was extremely humid outside.

Get it on a lift and find the condensate drain. It's a little rubber fitting on the passenger side. Make sure it is open and not stopped up with mud, mold, etc.

this is mold build up which is normal in texas due to the high humidity. go to parts store and buy frigifresh aresol. follow the directions. then start turning the a/c off before you get to your final destination. this helps dry out the evaporator core, so mold wont grow backas quick.

I have found rats, snakes and other animals in blower motors. Refrigerant is odorless. Mold could be the cause.

if it smells like anti-freeze . your heater coil is probably leaking and will soon go out . look for wetness under dash in the middle and near the passengers side floor

Yes, Impala's DO have the cabin air filter, which someone mentioned earlier. You access it from under the hood, but up at the firewall, kind of under the passenger side windshield wiper blade.
