The Ray Hubbard Bass Club held our third members only tournament of 2017, last Saturday April 8th at Lake Tawakoni. The day started of chilly and breezy. Unfortunately for a change, the weather man got something right and the promised high winds arrived late morning just as was predicted. If you stayed on either side of the lake, moving around wasn't bad, but the run across the lake at the end of the day proved treacherous. 20-30 mph winds made for huge swells and several teams (including mine) speared waves coming in and it made for a scary ride. Smartly, a bunch of our 44 teams took advantage of the rules and trailered to their area. All 44 teams made it back safely in the end with just a little equipment damage and a few lost items. When weigh in was over, long time Tawakoni veteran Capp Peace and his AOY partner Ronnie Manning took top honors with a five bass limit that weighed 22.95 pounds and included a kicker weighing 6.79. Big bass of the event went to the team of Danny and Zach Yates who brought a giant 9.79 bass to the scales. Here are full results and pictures.

Shawn and Shane Garber who followed us in off the water and lost a hat and some sunglasses on the way, weighed two for 4.66

Tiffiny and Jason Letterman brought two fish in that weighed 5.14, both caught by Tiffiny

Paul Villarreal and Joe Ruiz had 3 for 6.16

Joseph Shipley and Jamie Reid had three for 6.18

Cypress Springs runner up team of David Mulkey and Heath Wooten had three for 6.67

Bubba and Elliott Davis had five for 8.96, but were a couple minutes late to weigh in

Jim Phillips and Randy Bridges weighed in four for 9.38

Kelly Millhollon's son Dustin Lacy flew in from Ohio to fish this event with her. They had a fun day and weighed four for 10.17

Ed and Tyler Ham had four fish for 10.32

Always the biggest grin in the Club, Matt Jackson and Russell Olds had four for 10.59 that included a 5.43

Warren Whitaker and Jay Messersmith weighed a limit for 11.32

RHBC Open runners up Chadd Dearen and Shane Henderson had five for 11.38

James Sharp and Brian Brooks also had an 11.38 limit

Skee Hardin and Craig Magnano weighed in a limit that went 12.58

David Burton and Robert Oleson had five for 13.64 and a solid 9th place finish

Following up a strong finish at the Open, Robert Hitt and John Bruner weighed five for 13.74. Robert Hitt was weighing fish, so Robert Oleson lent a hand or two.

I fished with David Simmons. We arrived at weigh in sopping wet and happy to be on dry land. While David counted payouts I weighed our fish. Five for 15.83 with a 5.47 and first out of the money... Thanks for a fun day David.

Sixth place went to Tommy and Tony Climer with a limit weighing 16.36 that included a 4.66

Our fifth place team of Joel Dewey and Mike Kizer escaped my camera. I did not see or hear their weight or I would have insisted. They weighed five for 16.87 and that included a 5.83 kicker. Congrats guys!

The fourth place team of Andy and Ricky Medina also did not stop for pictures and ran off without their money as well. They had a tire problem and needed to get somewhere to get it fixed before it got too late. The Medina brothers had a great limit of 18.42

Finishing third with a five fish limit weighing 19.69 were Danny and Zach Yates

Included in that limit was big bass of the tournament. She weighed 9.79 pounds! What a beast!

Finishing second was the team of Vince Burt and Mark Werner. Vince also had to leave early for a family obligation so Mark stayed to weigh their fish. Mark told me they had 16-17 pounds. Well, they actually had five for 21.30 that included a 6.15 kicker and her twin sister.

Here are your winners. Following up a third place finish at Cypress with a win here were Ronnie Manning and Capp Peace. Their five weighed 22.95 and included a 6.79. Congrats guys!

Thanks to our TD's Robert Hitt and Paul Spann! Thanks to Fly Scheel taking some pictures for me while I weighed in. Thanks to David Simmons for doing registration and keeping the money dry! Our next tournament is Saturday May 13th at Lake Palestine. We are going out of Lake Palestine Resort. Full details will be announced here and on our web site! Hope to see you there!

Looking forward to it. Pretty sure we are going down Friday and I'm sure to stay up way to late to sabatoge our performance on Saturday.

Not sure about Friday night for me. But I will be looking for a place out east for Saturday night... After the tourney I am heading over to Caddo to take my parents on a tour of the bayou and fishing for a belated (December) 50th Anniversary gift! I have only been there once (last summer), but caught fish pretty good, so I have an idea of what we need to do.

My plan for them is Wacky Senkos, spinners, shakeyhead and light/weightless TxRig in the Cypress knees off Government ditch, and the cuts in the lanes around Shady Glade and the main river headed out to the lake. If it is fishable with the Salvinia, that is...

That being said, if anyone has any tips for Caddo in late spring (other than frogs/punching, they will be throwing spinning gear), I will gladly accept them.

See y'all in a few weeks!
