Hey I'm a junior at Guyer high school in Denton Texas and we just created a bass fishing team and are looking for sponsors and boat captains. If you know any sponsors or someone we can contact, please let us know so we can compete!

Get some of the kids on the fishing team and go around to the banks, car dealerships and any big business in town and talk to them about being a sponsor. That is the best way to get sponsors.

I've gone to numerous stores and businesses and I have had no luck. I figured I would try on here and see if anyone's willing to help and sponsor.

Are you kidding, the kid is looking for sponsors for a high school fishing team that just got started. He's not asking for personal money so give him a break.

My son and I are starting a fishing team at his high school also and I'd sure like to think that maybe some of the local businesses might like to help sponsor our young kids. It's called giving back to the community, you know the community that supports the local small businesses. Plus, they get their business advertised on the teams jerseys. I've already spent many hours starting my sons club up, time I could have spent making thousands of dollars but a lot of things are more important in life. I'll also spend many of my weekends taking kids out to fish on my own dollar, my own boat, my own tow vehicle, because it's a great thing to do. I'll also buy a kid a rod and reel if it means the difference between him/her fishing or not.

Tyler, don't give up and keep going to businesses. Many, many local businesses support school clubs and just explain what you are doing. Also, feel free to call or text me at 832-767-8890. I'm new to this also but I told my son I'd help out and we'd get a fishing club started at his school and we are doing it. Thanks for taking your time to do this, it's a great thing for kids to be involved in. Tyler, just disregard the grumpy old haters and it's great you are involved in your schools fishing club. I'm a grown adult and yes I'm asking local business for support and I'm also asking for boat captains. It's a great opportunity for grown men to mentor our kids, be a leader, and someone the kids can look up to.

Tyler, my high school started a fishing team the year after I graduated. I was pretty upset I missed that. But I know they are sponsored by one of the local tackle shops (Anglers Pro Tackle for you keller/nrh/haltom guys). If I were you local tackle shops would be the best bet. Not academy or dicks sporting goods but real shops. They live for fishing and want to help kids (and their businessesite lol). Good luck to you!

I truly appreciate what you are doing to help your son and other help start and run the HS team. That said.... maybe those "grumpy old haters" are like me.... tired of someone always sticking their hand out wanting something for nothing. I raised my boys to be respectful and that hard work gives them the fun tickets in life. I hope someone other than you teaches the respect chapter in the life lessons book you are teaching those young kids.... cause if calling someone a "grumpy old hater" is acceptable then you sir are failing them. How about you teach them respect???

Okay, thanks for the advice but I can assure you my kids are respectful. Neither, at ages 12 and 15, have ever had their folder marked one single time at school. Every teacher has commented how respectful they are also since kindergarten. No, they aren't perfect but so far they have been great kids and very respectful of their elders and always use "yes sir" and "yes Ma'am". My son has been out mowing yards this summer in the 100 degree heat for spending money and he's spent it all on fishing.

I'd also like to add that we adults need to act like adults and be respectful also and yes that includes being respectful to our youth. We aren't going to gain respect and be looked up to with the previous comments made to Tyler. He wasn't asking for a free handout, he was asking for help for a new fishing club. Personally, if I expect to be looked up to by others as a leader and an example of others to follow I expect myself to lead and be an example. I just think the comments made were not appropriate and definitely won't lead to our youth respecting the ones making the comments. I thought Tyler was being very respectful and asking for advice from what is supposed to be the leaders of our communities.

Using the term "grumpy old haters" was inappropriate, sorry if I offended someone. I'm not sure how a high school student that's starting a fishing club is supposed to work to support the club. My kids get up at 0510, catch the bus at 0600, then have after school activities several days a week and tons of homework. It's not like when I was in school for sure. I worked 4-5 days a week starting in about 7th grade and through college.

Not that you needed my approval but your opinion and words are very well received and respected.... thank you. Im sure i may have come across the wrong way as well.

Lets just hopefully get on the same track to help this young man get what he needs to compete with the same passion we have in love of the sport....

Tyler, if you read this, drop me a note and i hope to give you some ideas....
