A new database is being put together to handle orphan teams on an occasional basis.
When a new school starts putting together high school fishing teams or a current school adds teams in the run up to a tournament and does not have enough captains for a specific lake they will then be able to access this database and find captains for that lake whom has already been vetted and has all of the requirements needed to take out a team.
If anyone on here would like to participate and get vetted to be a captain e-mail me at sjbasser@aol.com. Put down that it is for the THSBA.

What do you mean, "already been vetted". My understanding is you have to pass a background check for each high school you are a boat captain for.

Yes you are right and we are trying to hit all of the requirements of all of the high schools in our requirements.
There are a couple of ways to do that background check and one of them is when you apply for a CHL each person has a background check done on them by the FBI and they are also fingerprinted.
And then each person in the database will have to have their Texas DL scanned by a high school and the name of the high school along with the information on the person that did the scan along with their contact number will also be on the form. All that will be recorded on a form which is then notarized by the person applying and kept on file by the THSBA.
There will also be a list the lakes or area of Texas they are available to take out orphan teams.
We are trying to help out these orphan teams with the best possible requirements so they to may fish until they find a permanent boat captain.

Have "all" the high schools agreed to this? If so, sounds good. This was always an issue for last minute boat captain's. It would give me a reason to finally get my CHL. Have you got anyone signed up yet?

Allen we are still in the process of approving the form. I have had a response from one individual so far.
