What's the secret to getting your dots. I tried the hole punch method but the dot is way bigger than I want. Thanks as always

Depends on what I'm painting, but I freehand them, use a q-tip dipped in black, or a drill bit dipped in black. It just depends on what I'm after.

you might try a smaller hole in your dot stencil. i've used just about everything for dots and never was completely satisfied. now i use the tip of an artists sponge which gives me an irregularly shaped dot. i like it much better. and i over spray (really a light mist) whatever color i need to bring out the bait and to dull down the dot. again looks more natural.

The dot size and shape must be just the right size or the bait will not work.

Use transparency paper and a fine point marker to make dots by tracing whatever is handy, pencil eraser, drill bit, nail head, etc. onto the transparency. Make several sizes and some that are oval or not perfectly round, too. Then cut out the shapes with a stencil cutter or X-acto knife. The clear transparency makes aligning the dots on the lure blank easy. At times a smaller than needed dot works well as a focal point to be freehand airbrushed over and around. That method makes the most realistic kill dots...imho.

I use the stud that goes in the do it jig mold for the weedguard. I did however just get a set of 3d stencils for 1.5 and 2.5 size baits with a more realistic shad dot and then they will be exactly the same on every bait.
