I got some blanks in yesterday and I'm wanting to do a crawfish bait. Any tips or paint color suggestions will help. I think this weekend is going to be wet so I'm going to try and paint a few. Thanks

kl, check this out. I posted a picture of one of the most beautiful craw patterns I have ever seen and if you open the slide show, there are two outstanding craws in there that boisarc on here did for me several years back.

I started off doing craws with a popsicle stick, that is probably the easiest way to do a basic craw. Do your base color say brown, then your belly color possibly a creamy orange, shade your back a little darker by mixing black really thin if you use reducer mix it 80 reducer-20 paint and lightly shade the back and nose section how you want it. Then use your popsicle stick on the side of the bait to make your 3-4 sections. I always started around the gill plate on the bait and you can spray the paint on the actual stick your just wanting the overspray on the bait. Then move the stick over and do your next section overlapping the previous section slightly. Continue this until you reach the back of the bait. .ake sure to heat set each section before moving to the next.

I'm no pro and my post might be a little confusing, I'll see if I can dig up some pics of what I am talking about when I get home.

Thanks brad. I never thought of a Popsicle. I made a stencil last night and it worked ok. But I'm going to give the your idea a try. I appreciate the suggestions

Nice. I'm gonna give it a try this weekend need to grab some more paint and Popsicle sticks. I'm also thinking about hitting it with some blue on the sides then splattering black for dots.

Here's a pretty basic crawfish paint schedule to start with. Play around with colors and have some fun with it. texas

Watermelon Craw
1. Base coat white.
2. Spray bottom half with some kind of pearl orange.
3. Mix together pearl greens and browns till you get a watermelon color and spray top half of bait.
4. Use a stencil or mask off with Popsicle sticks and paint with black.
5. Splatter back with black.
