About the only fishing I do anymore is for bluecat so I'm lacking in most other fishing techniques. With the heat the blues have moved to deeper water and spend most of their time sitting on humps and ledges under schools of hybrid and bait. I'm drifting with drift socks at about .5 to 1mph, depending on the wind, and dragging Santee rigs on the bottom for the cats. So I'm basically following the same schools y'all are with my graph to find blues under them. I'm finding fish in 25 to 40ft around structure. The hybrid are bombing the bait balls(usually suspended) and the cats are under the schools feeding. I'll pick up a few hybrid off the bottom on cut bait sometimes. So here's the questions.

Can I drift like I'm doing, dragging my cat rigs behind me, and vertical jig with slabs and jigs for the suspended hybrid?

What's a good slab and jig?

Probably going to gear down some of my abu bait casters with smaller line and use them or can I stay with my 30lb mono for the slabs?

Thanks fellas.....

I'm no expert but... Just be sure it's a realitive smooth bottom or you will get hung alot. Just cast out, and keep popping it up off the bottom. I like the Cotton Cordel slabs.

I like to use the slabs and flys made by SandJohnny. If your drifting you may have to go to a 2oz slab do it stays vertical. Just snap it off the bottom and let it flutter back down. If the fish are suspended let your slab down to the level of the fish and snap your slab up and down. Sometimes you can burn your slab through the school and get hit.

Oh yeah, that will work, I do that sometimes. I like 1.5 oz slabs, and have caught them on many different ones, they aren't too picky. White works for me as far as color goes. As far as line, I use 20 lb big game with good results.

30# line might be a bit much for some of the lighter spoons, but if you're drifting then you're more likely to use heavier spoons anyways.

Thanks for the help. I'll run by wal mart and academy tonight and see what slabs or flutter spoons I can find.
Might be too windy to drift today but I'll get out there at some point this week and post results.

keep a tight line on the drop if jigging. thats when i catch most of mine. drift sock work great to slow your boat down when drifting.
