Met Rob at Lofers bend and was greeted with high water (1/2 dock covered with water) and breezy North wind.
Decided to try South of the island first. Caught a few there then Rob noticed birds through the trees on the North side of the island. Went around to the North side of the island and there were a fair amount of birds working, no splashes but it was obvious that the fish were driving the shad up. Didn't take long to get over a big school of nothing but stripers and it was game on. Catch a few, move, catch more, etc. The graph was lit up like I have not seen in a long time (see pic). After this played out went North to point 9, point 8 and Cedron creek area. Nothing for us.
Went back to the island and caught many good sized sand bass, North and South. Fish were either suspended at 10-15 in 20-30 fow or hugging the bottom in 15-20 fow. The ones hugging the bottom were easier to catch with slabs. Almost every fish we caught was on a slab, small for the sandies and 1.5 to 2 oz for the Striper.

Nothing but striper

Rob caught many doubles (on slab with fly above)

Nice job. Went out Friday afternoon and only caught three. Never could locate any large schools. Fished pretty much the same spots you described.

Great pics Steve. Are you retired now, you are fishing all over the state?
Congratulations on some great trips.

Whitney is on fire. Limits came easy on Sunday am. Huge schools of fish for sure.

Well despite the good reports, I struggled. We didn't get out until late because we duck hunted, but with the numbers we're hearing and the good markings we had, I would have thought that we would've hooked up on something. Went everywhere but the island and just couldn't seem to buy a bight trolling or slabbing. Maybe next year...
