I am a first time boat owner that took out the, new to me, boat for the first time this morning. Unloaded the boat at the ramp with no problems into a sea of thick bass boats readying themselves for a bass tournament they had going on today. Luckily there wasn't a wait at the ramp. When we first picked up the boat from the seller, I told my wife that I am going to quit my job to be a full time fishing guide. But after today's trip, I'm not cut out to be a fishing guide. I don't think my friends would even come back to fish with me for free anymore! I couldn't find any fish! We managed 4 big sand bass all day. My plan was to find Salsa and discreetly follow him to the fish. But we failed to spot him. Despite not being able to produce any fatties, I considered this first trip with my own boat a success. I was able to launch and load the boat without sinking it. Well, loading needs a little more work but at least I didn't manage to tear anything up. Hopefully I can figure out how to find them fish someday. Tight lines.

Nice rig! All it takes if a few times loading and unloading to get the hang of it. You'll get it.

Any trip where you don't break or lose anything is a somewhat success.

You boated 4 fish! Sounds like a success to me. Much better than a goose egg.

But do you really need to son???

Great looking rig! I have a week spot in my heart for center console bay boats (as I call 'em).

Get that beast up to Texoma and give it a run! I'll keep my eye open for ya!

Fishing us like anything else, you have to put in the time on the water, keep a fishing log good or bad. Watch this forum for updates. A lot of the men that fish these lakes will give you insight where to start looking.
I love your new boat!!

Cigga Im new to the forum as well. I have been reading it for a year or so. I took my boys out on Lewisville yesterday to go after sandbass and did not catch anything. I'm starting to feel mocked by my Lowrance HDS10 haha. For those of you that have donated info in the past here is the little that I discovered yesterday. Hopefully I can feed some info credits into the forum so I can get out something instructive sometime.

-most shad that I saw on my electronics was south of the cut. I did catch one gizzard shad north of the toll bridge and I think I saw many more on the fishfinder because I was trying to slab them thinking they where sandbass but after no luck I threw a cast net 5 or 6 times and caught one gizzard. Caught no thredfins. Saw no birds diving even though I did see several flying around but nothing concentrated.

So Cigga I had a similar day that you did but got a goose egg. I tried the main lake point just east of the cut through and found what I thought was large schools stacked around 22 feet of water as a recent poster said to try the points but I slabbed them to death and could not get a bite. Switched to down scan/side scan and I think it was just shad as well.

I'll try again or maybe try a different lake haha. Anyways look forward to sharing with you all.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping to keep the boat that way. Nice and in one piece. I am going to try twok again tomorrow with a friend that has alot of boating experienced. Hopefully we will have better luck. My boat is stored in pottsboro. So I'm hoping that texoma start biting again so I can start going there more. It's more fuel efficient for me to go texoma. Lol.

Fish are stacked shallow. Try tossing little George type lures to match water clarity. Find fish inside bait. slow roll till bite pattern established. Dont be afraid to use 3/8 ounce jig head dressed with sassy shad or curly tailed plastics. garlic dip helps create scent trail. U r trying to have fish pick your bait out of the thousands of live baitfish. Results can be solid. 9.5 taken and released.

Oakpointaggie, Lewisville is just not a good lake to fish right now. Not only has the lake suffered the past couple of years, but most of the fish are in the creeks spawning. Lewisville is full of shad, that's for sure, and once you find a real school of sandies or hybrids you will know the difference. Try the flats across from Lake Park. At least you will catch some 6 inch fish. You may get one 11 or 12 inch fish for every 15 dinks.

Try to locate fish by yourself instead of trying to follow somebody. It will help you become a stronger fisherman in years come. You can get plenty of pointers on this site and will learn your electronics over time. Like others have said Time on the water will make you a great fisherman. Understanding what and why fish are doing things at certain times of the year will help you locate and catch fish on your own. Good luck to you, be safe, and nice boat!
