Went out yesterday from 11-2:30 (when they were pumping out water)...landed 7 keepers and had a few more get off. One bigger fish broke 65lb braid.

It was crazy hot but the trip was fun.

Very Nice. Fishing in the lake is still very bad from what I read.
Can they be caught from the bank in the river?

Does not surprise me that fish broke 65 LB braid. I have a box of bomber trebles that have been bent straight. I've seen stripers break and actually break jig hooks when I get more than one on at a time and they can't break the 40 lb fluorocarbon leader.

Bet it was fun while it lasted.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

You sure the knot didn't come loose? Often time ill use superglue on my braid knots because they are bad about coming loose.

I'm 100% sure it didn't. Fish went on a run and broke about 2 mins into the fight....I lost about half my spool LOL. It was a stud fish. Honestly I can't say if it was a striper or a paddle fish or a monster Gar. It was exciting regardless.

And yes they can be caught from the shore. There were a ton of peeps catching them. Just watch for the snakes, saw peeps catching snakes too LOL

Where did you launch into the river? A friend is coming down from Arkansas next week to fish a couple days, and we're thinking about the Red below Texoma, as we haven't fished it in 25 years.

We're both pretty old and bunged up so we would need a good ramp to use.

Two old codgers thank you.

We launched right off the shore on the OK side...about 200 yds below the damn. You will need a 4wd truck as the beach is sandy. They don't start pumping until 11 so the water level will be too low to launch until the pumps are on. You might want to check with COE just to make sure. Also...might try to get some reports before you go. The fish have already started dying off so it may not be that good. There were a ton of floaters when we went.
