Buddy and I grabbed the flyrods before dark and fought some bigguns on the fly.. Had a Blast!!!!!!

Have only fly fish for trout in co. Will my 5 # rod a reel be heavy enough for the sandies?looks like a blast. Thanks

A 5 wt. will work fine Arkmay! I generally use a 6, 7 or 8 wt. rod depending on the size of fly I am casting. For Sandbass, a 5 should be fine. It can be real fun when either Sandies or Hybrids are schooling on top with a floating line. To get to them down deep you'll need a sinking line or sink-tip line depending on how deep. I use a fly rod quite alot.

Yeah were using 5wt,buddy is using 6lb mono leader and I had on same set up I used on the san Juan in new mexico 7ft tippet.caught some big fish, just let the rod suck up all their energy.
