Summer heat brings on another pattern change and again this year it is different. The fresh water and new cover for the fish, also the big creeks are moving the runoff from the upper lakes, Bardwell and Navarro Mills, so our flood gates are opening and closing which all of this affects our fishing.
The biggest difference I see this year is the top water schooling action has never really started and maybe it still will. The fishing patterns seem to be running way behind but that's ok, really it is.
We are catching plenty of fish but instead of schooling fish we are catching them deep just off the bottom usually in depths of 17 to 24 feet with slabs vertical jigging straight down under the boat for the most part. For slab color choice, I'm kind of stuck on chrome or chartreuse but I also like white and yellow.
I've noticed some days the fish are really spooky and it's important to stay back and cast at the school. Sometimes they will hang around a little longer if you can stay off the top of them.
Starting to pick up more of the Hybrids now that the heat is on. Im catching them much the same way I catch sand bass, just deeper ledges on these guys. It's all about your electronics you have to find them before you can catch them and sometimes you just can't make them bite so I just keep looking and hope to get a little lucky!
