Yes, a license, insurance and a reputation for putting people on fish, and lots of fish stories for the days you can't buy a bite. Where and what are you wanting to guide for?

Good luck, if you decide to try it. Its hard work and long hours, I'm sure you already know that. Hope it works out for you.

First you must take some out free of charge and put them on fish thereby building a good word of mouth campaign. I suppose I would help you out so let me know when you want to go.

Make your way to Walmart and buy a Freshwater Fishing Guide License for $132 and you are a Licensed Professional Guide! Then....have about 3 years of savings in the bank in order to live on while you build your business. Takes about that long if you do it right with the Internet, Business Building such as Trade Shows, Word of Mouth, etc. I highly recommend a Million $ "Guide Insurance Policy" to cover yourself and your family in case of a real problem. (Many Guides don't carry any insurance and they are open to suits and more) Have a reliable boat/motor, electronics, and fishing equipment that is good enough to withstand day to day fishing and abuse. Know how to find fish in the toughest conditions and the easy days too. Do the little things that folks remember...Note in their cabin welcoming and thanking them, have a fishing report email list, take pics and text to them of their trip, give away a cap or logo'd shirt to the Big Fish winner on Group Trips, etc. Most importantly of all....be a people person and treat customers like they have never been treated before. I retired after 30 years in the Business World (Marketing) and have Guided with my Son as my Partner for 15 years. I tell folks that I haven't worked a day in the past 15 years! I normally fish six days a week from March thru July and about three days on average the rest of the year. (September and February you can take your vacation) We fish everyday except Sunday. I'm a very blessed and fortunate person. Good Luck and hope you're successful!

I can help with the insurance. I am in DFW and have been doing insurance for 10 years. I just did a policy for a guide and am wanting to have more Fishing guides as clients. Send me a PM and we can talk.
I only fish on days that end in Y!

Get you a 2 gallon bucket.... Fill it with marbles. For every trip you run, throw one marble out. When the bucket is empty, you will be a guide. LOL
