When I first started fishing PK in 2011, the lake was chock full of sand bass. There are still some sand bass but nothing like it used to be. Seems to me those fish have been supplanted by stripers. TPWD has stocked stripers now three years in a row and they own this lake now. This seems to go along with the tales I've heard about how Texoma was such a sand bass haven until Stripers were stocked. Personally, I prefer stripers , so this is just an observation.

I'd be interested in hearing what others think on this subject.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

I'm no expert, but it sounds right to me. The bigger strippers are competing with the sandbags for the same prey and they are even eating some of the smaller sandbass. Just my humble opinion.

I grew up fishing Texoma, we really did load the boat with sand bass then, and yes I agree after the introduction of stripers the sand bass catch went down, if anyone remembers before the 1st big flood we really did catch some huge stripers! Last year I got into some sand bass out of Lowes for an hour of so but we moved on and got the stripers. A great day. I have fished many a day and limited out with overs and box fish and not 1 sand bass.

Stripers eat sand bass for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

In the 1980's the biggest stiper that I ever saw caught on Texoma was 20# caught on a 2# sandy that was caught earlier. The guy said it was legal to fish with them if you caught them on a hook. Personally I don't know. I think in hard times stripers will eat anything that they can get in their mouth and swims.
