Hit the water about 5:45 pm Sat evening. We went straight to the waterfall. There were lots of boats but catching was slow. We anchored out 50 yds in front and caught about 10 on slabs. We decided to go look for more. We left and went to Pelican Island. There were lots of birds diving and feeding but no schooling fish. Then went across the lake to Ferguson point and worked our way back to Windsock point and caught two of the bottom, then to Fisherman's point and left. My question is: Where are the acres of schooling white bass! I have not been to the lake in a few years, but the last time I was there during the season they were everywhere. We would leave them biting when we caught our limit. What am I missing?

Most locals and most guides believe the Sandbass population is low due to the inability to get great spawns for the past four or five years. This is the first year we've had the Creeks running in the Spring for the fish to move up and spawn. This doesn't explain the absence of the Hybrids though. In the past two Falls and Winters, there have been NO Sandies caught and prior to this, the Fall has been about the best time of the year for quantity and quality.

Last year it was April before the fish showed up and this year we've had good action early am for the past two weeks. Easy limits several days last week! No large schools of Hybrids though so the best is yet to come! Oh yea....Chambers Creek is still flowing so I'm guessing lots of fish are still there.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info! I knew something had to be different from reading everyone's post.
When you say easy limits in the am are you talking about finding the fish in the usual spots with fish finder and catching them off the bottom? Or are they schooling on the surface?

I was fishing those birds on pelican island saturday evening...

we caught a few.. but they were not game on by any means. There was fish there.. graph looked great but they just weren't that hot on the bite... Ive seen that before out there. I agree with Royce... it will only get better from here... maybe a week maybe two weeks and i think it will be game on!

I sure hope so.. I saw another boat there, might have been you! We were in a Cajun center console full of kids!
I sure thought we were going to be on some.

Right now, much depends on how early you want to get on the lake and get a spot at the Waterfall. Friday's trip with 4 year old Ella and her Dad resulted in a 50 fish limit in a couple of hours. There's no pics for Saturday and Monday trips as we got on the lake around 8AM and the action was over. We caught a few fish but it was really tough and all were slab fish in small schools on Pelican and the Flats. Today's trip with another Dad and Daughter combo was awesome as they put 50 fish in the box in about an hour and a half, were ready to go and I was cleaning fish before 9AM. The rest of the story is "Don't even think about the waterfall on a Saturday unless you like "Combat Fishing". Just not worth it! Hopefully the normal spots like Pelican, Roadbed, etc. will turn on in the next few days! I'd avoid RC this Weekend as the 200 person Lutheran Group is there now at Fisherman's Point Marina and it's a Trolling Bunch of Guys! juggle

Good Luck!

Been wondering how things were going on RC. Unfortunately I'm usually to busy in the spring to spend much time on the water. Hope to get out there this weekend. Thanks for the reports guys.

Planning on going again Fri evening. (if it doesn't rain) Funny about the group at Fisherman's point, might put in on the free ramp across the lake. I will start a new post if I go.

I was out Friday morning at the waterfall and caught a limit on white bass and several hybrid including 1 keeper. I was there again Saturday morning doing a little "combat fishing" and caught the same. Several whites (50 plus) and some hybrid. I did not fish Sunday. Then I went out again on Monday night (up near 287) and caught a pile of them and then again Tuesday night we caught several including a Hybird.

It seems like the bite is slower than usual but still having good luck.

Caught everything on the 5" sassy shad or the gizzard shad slab from RSR. Best baits for RC in my opinion.

Left the Waterfall after a few fish this am and headed up the Lake. Sat on two different humps in 25' water for two hours of non-stop catching of Magnum Sandies and 16" Hybrids. All on RSR Shad Chartruse Slabs. ( www.rsrlures.com ) Not another boat around as they were at the Waterfall! banana

Love it this time of the year when the fish finally show up and you can sit on a school for an hour or so and not see another boat.

I highly recommend the Waterfall for all your RC fishing needs! coach

Good Luck! Looks like RC is turning on!

Glad to be finding them on humps, the combat fishing at the waterfall is ridiculous.

Would you have to kill me if you told me...

Here is what worked for Robert and I last Saturday. We started at the waterfall first light. Vertical jigging did not work at all, boats all around us were catching and we had a fish on the graph but they did not want it that way. Horizontal jigging kinda worked but the best for us was small rattle trap, pet spoon or small shallow crank. Three guys on the bank were hauling them in.
At around 11:00 we checked out windsock and a few other humps - nothing doing. Where we did find them was on hump just West of Pelican. Vertical slabbin worked very well. Fish were small at first but a few gentle bumps on the bottom of the boat and we got a good school under us.
