It looks like BPS will be having a Black Friday sale on the Hummingbird 798Si Combo. Looks to be a pretty good buy. Just wondered what some of you who use one or have any experience with this unit think about it. Is it worth spending the money on SI with a screen that small or is it better to just cough up the extra for the large screen? Any input greatly appreciated.

Boating - hours of pleasure interrupted by moments of sheer panic

I would suggest that you take a little time and compare them in the store side by side. I think the display in side imaging mode is as wide on the 798 as it is on the 898 and 998, reason being the information that is displayed on the side of the screen on the bigger units.
The 1197 screen displays info on the bottom but is a lot more money.

It ain't easy making it look easy.

I bought one about 3 months ago.
Too small in IMHO.

I'd wait for a bigger one.

But if it's a good deal and all that you can afford. Better to have a 798 than to be without.

Hard to see fish on SI for me. But changes in bottom hardness and depth it's pretty good for.

How wide of a swath do you try to display?
I usually try to show 100' on both sides, still a pretty good display that I can read and recognize fish.
