Rob and I headed for the island around 7 looking for some morning top water, never happened, not a single splash. Graphed around there for a while only picking up a couple sandbass. Went to a spot we caught striper at last time, nada. Decided to head for the Towash area and on the way spotted a boat show just North of Harbor Master. Large schools of sandbass were bustin top in 60 fow. Caught them with top water and slabs. After they went down and the other boats vanished we hung around and found them stacked thick from 10-50 fow (see pic below). Most were in the 20-30 ft range so we dropped slabs down to them and caught suspended sb and striper for about an hour. When that died down we decided to try Towash, we washed out there. Rob got out the binocs and found egrets working the bluffs along State Park. WOW, acres of fish on top. Look at that graph of sanbass with stripers below (see last pic). We caught fish after fish of big striper and sandbass. Biggest striper was 28" and 10.1 lbs. This lasted for a couple of hours and no other boats around, how lucky are we? Rob was bleeding from a cut, I had a hook in my arm pass the barb, Rob lost a rod and reel, I had a huge backlash, it was hot hot hot, etc. BUT WHO CARES, we were having the time of our lives. Ended the day with 106 on the clicker mostly stripers. Graph at Harbor Master Big striper of the day at State Park Graph at State Park

Sounds like an awesome time! I have only been to Whitney once, about 35 years ago when I was a kid.

Sounds like a great trip Steve except for the hook and lost rod.

Sounds like y'all had a great day. Even with the mishaps I would have traded my day with you.

Steve, thanks for not telling everyone that the rod and reel was the 2nd to land on the bottom of the lake in 2017! Guess I need to tether them to my wrist or feet. It has been fun and was worth it. Looking forward to our next trip.

Was out Monday and found small schools of sand bass mixed with small stripers around loafers. It seems it's gonna be a live bait game unless you find them schooling on top.

I'm planning to head out to Whitney Monday. Puting in at the state park. Anyone have a few tips for someone that hasn't hit the lake in over 10 years? Planning on an evening trip with the wife and daughter to see if we can find a few fish.
