I've heard they have the gates open. I've looked at the websites about the release but its a foreign language to me. would it be possible to kayak below?or get upstream to the damn from the bridge? I've never been so any advise would be great. i would hate to drive an hour to find i can't put in below. thanks!!!

The flow is normal. You can kayak from the Hwy 16 bridge.

They opened one last week but its now back to normal

You can do it from the 16 bridge when the gates are closed. They are closed now. You'll need to walk your kayak to the deeper still water by the bridge and launch.

When the gates are open you can drive up to the dam and there's a small stream that goes into the brazos there that you can put into. I've seen kayaks put in there, but I considered it having a death wish when the water was high.

Well it's was really nice down there today! Caught a lot of fish and the paddle was pretty easy, but don't think I will be kayaking it with any gates open.
