June this year is so different than years past, we have a big beautiful lake again and it's just a pleasure to be on it these days.
The big difference for me is I’m not really finding the fish in the same old places now but by the time you read this everything may be back to normal.
The deep humps are covered with cool water all the way across them. What I mean is, looking at my depth finder going across the humps it's covered with this blue black band of stuff which is cooler water and in a few days this band of cool water will be in the middle of my depth finder half way between the top and bottom of the water column, this is called thermocline and after a week are so of this the fish will figure out where they want to be and I hope it's in the same old spots like 287 flats, 309 flats, wind sock point, pelican island and a number of other places.
In the mean time we are looking for early morning schooling fish working birds and fish jumping. Then moving deep, looking for fish in depths anywhere from 15 feet to 27 feet. Vertical jigging works well when you find them deep, but the last few days casting the slab out and using a technique I call boot scooting just kind of working it off the bottom as you reel the bait back in. It's a soft bite but was catching some really nice fish!
My favorite fishing will be here any morning now with the fish jumping as the sun comes up and the Top Water action will be on.
