RC has been money lately. You don't have to fish the spillway like most are doing. They are pretty easy to find anywhere from the 287 bridge all the way to the damn. If you have decent sonar or side imaging you can locate them within 30 mins or so. Limits are easy.

On a Saturday or Sunday the Sandie fisherman will be bunched up. Most will head to the spillway next to the damn. That's fine if you get there early. But it will get packed. A pair of Binoculars is as good as good sonar. Look for the boats grouped up. If you let out at Fishermans point you are directly across from the damn and spillway. You can back away from the traffic jam at the spillway and jig behind everybody. That also works good on the Hybrids as I think they set further back and pick up the dead shad that the sandies are killing. Just throw anything Green. Rattle traps to schooling fish, big slabs for jigging sandies, and 4" or 5" flukes for the hybrid. The live bait action is starting to pick up for the hybrid. You can catch all the shad you need at first light in the cove at Fishermans point, Oak Cove Marina, or right up in the rough water at the spillway. You can get some good 4" and 5" shad at the spillway early. RC has been hot and I mean real hot for sand bass. If you get time away during the week its great. You can limit out early and go chase Hybrid or just catch and release sand bass all day. Last Thursday we limited out 6 fisherman by 8 a.m.. Headed to 287 bridge and fished another few hours for fun. Got into a decent hybrid bite there too.

Yea, they are schooled up. Typical Spring patterns are starting to form and will increase. Don't forget to check under the 287 bridge. They were stacked up there last week. Just like everywhere else, many small Hybrid are schooling with the sandies. Take a second look before you throw them in the cooler. Pelican Island is always a place to check.

typically when do they start schooling on the surface at RC?? Seems like everything there is ahead of the other lakes as far as sandies go..

RC seems to start earlier the last few years due to poor spawns up the creeks which has been due to extremely low water levels for the last several years. This year and last year all the early sand bass I caught in the lake were full of eggs when they should have been up the creeks spawning. I fish Lake Limestone as well and they are still up the Navasota River. Limestone has always had better quality sand bass in the 2 to 2.5 lb. range. But RC has the better numbers.

I know this sounds weird, but I would love to tag along to learn a thing or too and where to catch some sandies, I practice a lot catch and release, I like watching them go
