Took my daughter out around 5:30pm Sunday night. We went over by Bass pro for our first stop. Turned engine off and there was a weird buzzing. Took one of the rods out of the rod holder and got what seemed to be a static electric shock. Daughter got the same thing. As you would raise the rod the buzzing would get louder and could also here some interference in my radio which was playing my ipod. Turned off everything including battery switch in back and still all my rods had that static electricity. We went immediately back to slip as I was worried with what was going on. Anybody have this happen to them before or any ideas what would cause it?

If you were not directly under high voltage power lines then it was most likely Static charge from lightning. YOU DID GOOD... Get out of there.

Steve you were very lucky. Lightening for sure with all the storms about. I have heard of that happening on Hubbard before.

Had that happen on Texoma for the first time last week. Only one rod would do it. Sounded like a small transformer buzzing. No thunder or lighting around during that. Very scary though. You need to get off water immediately when that happens.

Yep... Got yapped twice. First time didn't believe it so I grabbed it again! Then ran the hell back to the dock. The lightening was a few miles away but it left a burn mark on my finger. Poured some Miller antiseptic on it and it felt better.
