For 3 hours today I scouted the usual main lake shallow (12 to 17 fow) and deep (20 to 26 fow) structures. The only significant fish I caught were 7 whites, a dozen eatin size yellow bass and a dozen short hybrids. These were all at Spillway Hump, and I could have stayed there and caught mostly yellows and short hybrids, but I kept moving around looking for good whites and hybrids. I did see a boat with 3 guys hauling in what looked like good sized white bass at Enchanted Ridge. They were using slabs and were in 20 to 25 fow. The water there is pretty stained from the recent rains. I looked around there but didn't see much on the scope - keeping a respectable distance from the guys catching fish.

The last place I tried was Long Ridge - on my way back toward the house. Caught some yellows and short hybrids there in 19 fow. Went looking on the east part of the structure where top was 27 fow but found nothing. Decided to call it a day. I had stowed the trolling motor and taken a short break before cranking up to head home. As I went to crank it up I glanced at the scope and saw fish down near the bottom in the 33 fow where I had drifted to. I rarely look in water that deep, but decided to see if I could catch what ever was down there. In the next hour at that spot I caught 30 big white bass, 2 legal hybrids - one about 25 inches, a 17 inch hybrid and 2 large yellow bass. Didn't catch any small yellows, whites or other short hybrids there. I kept fish under me by stomping on the floor of my boat like they do dead-sticking. But rather than dead-sticking, I was reeling my #4 silver Mepps up medium slow from the bottom. I experimented with a #5 Mepps and a large silver spoon, but the fish much preferred the #4 Mepps.

So, I guess I am going to have to start looking in deeper water in addition to the usual structures to increase my chances of finding and catching good fish.

Here is pic on 16 1/2 inch white caught at that last spot:

Thanks for the report Dennis. When the weather turns better for us weekend warriors, hopefully I will be able to get out and find some myself.

Great report Dennis, I always glean something from your posts. Maybe on my next trip I need to search areas I don't usually look. One question, has CC had a significant water rise? I'm wondering if my home lake's rapid increase has the fish confused about where they are supposed to be... Maybe you are experiencing the same thing there.

PS - That's a monster sandbass in your pic! cheers

Yes, it's been 2 to 6 ft low for 3 years and filled up a month ago. Now every time it rains they are letting water out, which some have said changes fishing patterns.

Nice fish Dennis. Glad you found them. I can't think of a better thing to do on tax day than go fishing. Hope to get out there this weekend.

Dennis.
Thanks for the report. I am finding the same thing. The fish are deeper and we caught 75 between 22 and 27 ft Tuesday on the side of humps not on top. We caught 9 hybrids between 5 and 9 lbs on Moe's Chartruse 1.5 oz slab.
We all enjoy your reports and hope to see you on the lake soon
