Here is a reply from the Biologist responsible for several lakes including Granbury and Whitney. This will also impact PK and a few other reservoirs.

Michael,

Your question regarding striper stocking was very timely. I just received
word 30 minutes ago that we had a near total failure of our striper
production this year. It is my understanding that golden alga is being
blamed for the failure at our Dundee hatchery, and poor water quality at our
Possum Kingdom hatchery. Nitrification from the wildfires has been
hypothesized as a possible culprit for the poor water quality, but it has
not been verified.

We did have some hybrid production, so hybrid lakes are largely unaffected.
Backup production from A.E. Wood hatchery helped us out there.

I wish I had better news. This information was unexpected to say the least,
since our hatcheries have been doing a great job dealing with water issues
the past few years.

That is bad news....sounds like the effects will be felt statewide.

Bad news for sure! Had a good time fishing Granbury with you last the winter. Is your offer for a Lewisville trip still good?

I know that PK did not get a full stocking last year and I guess none this year. It seems we need a new plan for the Brazos over the next few years. We may need to discuss private stocking.

I have mentioned private stocking in the past to the biologist at PK. He has never warmed up to it.
