25th Annual perch jerk contest results from Pete Dodges Guide Service website...If you visit Petes website you can see a photo of the big catch... Lake Fayette County – First Place: Team “Lunkerville” won with a 50 perch limit of 37.2 pounds! They also had the big perch at 15.5 ounces!! I had the pleasure of fishing on Team Lunkerville along with with Maco and his son Gage out of Houston. We had an absolute blast catching Lake Fayette County perch all morning!! We used Shakespeare GX2 6′ Medium action Ugly Sticks paired with a quantum OPTIX10 spinning reels. Because we used a drop shot rig with a small weight at the bottom, our bait stayed just off the bottom where the bluegill were. We fished night-crawlers in 6 to 10+ feet on a hard bottom. We were lucky the deep fish bit, since the shallow fish were hard for me to find!
Lake Fayette County perch jerk – 2nd Place: Second went to Tommy and Matt Chovanec!! They brought a 50 fish limit of Lake Fayette County perch to the scales. Their weight was 34 pounds! Thats an average of 11 ounces per fish!! Not bad guys!! Congratulations Tommy & Matt! Lake Fayette County perch jerk – 3rd Place: “Pat’s Perching Pals” made up of Luke Beseda and Cole Jurecka of Fayetteville took 3rd. They also had a limit of 50 perch with a weight of 32 pounds! Congratulations!
Lake Fayette County perch jerk – 4th Place: Fourth palace went to Team “Still Jerking”! Legendary perch jerkers Mike Gideon, Jessica Schmidt & Jeff Schneider weighed in 42 perch at 27 pounds. Too bad their Lake Fayette honey hole dried up prior to reaching a 50 fish limit! Congratulations!
Lake Fayette County perch jerk – 5th & 6th Place: We had a tie for 5th and 6th place! Erin, Josh & Marvin Schneider teamed up with Ryan Read to weigh in 14.9 pounds,. Bernard and Ricky Coufal & son weighed in the same!! Wonder if they fished the same hole!! Congratulations! Finally, thanks to everyone who participated!! Lake Fayette is located 10 miles north east of La Grange, Texas. The Lake Fayette County perch jerk is always a great time and I for one cant wait till next year!
