Put the float tube on Athens (my local lake, 5 min from home) yesterday morning. Caught a lot of sunfish up to about 7 inches long on red wigglers about 4 ft under a bubble. Turned them all lose to fight again. Also took a big black bullhead about 12 inches long on the same rig which I think is the first time I ever caught one on a bait that wasn't on the bottom. Considered keeping the cat but 1 fish won't make a meal for me and Mama so I let him swim away as well. Had an absolutely huge snapping turtle surface next to me as well. Good day on the water.

Awesome report. Good days on the water are hard to beat! cheers

Side Note: If you would have kept the Gills along with the Bullhead you would have had a pretty good mess of fish for a nice fish fry! hmmm There is always next time! thumb

I grew up in CO and float tubes are really common there. I'm kind of surprised that so few people use them here. They are easy to transport, don't take up a lot of room, allow you to get into the "thick spots" and you can launch them from any shore line. Also since there is not motor or prop wash they don't spook fish. Try one and I'm pretty sure you'll like it.

I work at several sporting goods retailers. What would be a good brand to look for? Right now I love the kayak. Loading and launching has never been a problem for me with the yak. I also have gotten onto some nice fish with out spooking em. I do know of some spots where a tube just might be the way to fish them. Will be looking into possibly getting a good tube in the distant future.

I use a Togiak Trout Unlimited tube. Not saying it is any better than any other brand but this particular tube is one I inherited from my father after he passed away. it is very stable, has lots of pockets for storing things and is comfortable.

I run into alligators every second outing. Not really into tubes for some reason :-)
