Question: When you fish with a cork, do you set the hook as soon as you see the cork bobble, or do you wait until the cork goes under?

If it's a small cork wait till it goes under.

Thanks for the reply fe 1. I normally fish a bottom rig, so don't have much experience with a cork. Sometimes they take it down fast, but other times they seem to just bobble it.

All depends on the situation. If the bite is very aggressive, we wait til the bobber is under for a couple of seconds max. If it's more tentative, we look for action that implies the fish has the bait in it's mouth, and isn't just pecking at it. That might be seeing the float move across the water, or maybe tilting for a second or two. Any change in the way the bobber looks for more than a second or two could mean the fish has the hook in its mouth. We prefer tightlining for sunnies, but sometimes weed growth or bottom structure make that very difficult, if not impossible.

I wait until the bobber goes under. Also If the fish runs I will set the hook in a couple of seconds. Sometimes the bobber will not go under when the fish runs.

Thanks high country and Banker, appreciate the replies. The situations I'm thinking of is when the bite is not agressive. Your replies are helpful.
Back in the day when Lake Austin had a good bluegill population, I fished a slip cork most of the time, would throw it up under overhanging tree limbs. The bite was usually always agressive. As soon as they took the bait, the cork disappeared. Loved fishing that way. Was not unusual for a catfish or bass to take the worm and run, fast. If I hadn't remembered to set the drag properly, I was in trouble.
Not expecting the vegetation and fish to return to Lake Austin during my lifetime. So sad to see a great fishery destroyed.

When fishing with a float I wait for the float to go under. If the bite is not aggressive I usually give it a three count once the float is under.
