Fished the Great Southwest for two days and the bite was good. Fished both the West Nueces and the Nueces rivers. Caught a bunch of nice Longear in the 6 and 7 inch range and a mess of Tilapia in the 2 to 3 pound range. The biggest Tilapia was 3.47 Lbs which will be submitted for the Tilapia record for the West Nueces River. Rounding out the catch were a few Bluegill,Rios,Bass, and Redear. Worms were the bait of choice with both bottom and float techniques being used. Fish were caught close to grass and weed beds in 4 to 6 feet of water. The water was clear on both rivers with good current. I also saw a nice herd of Turkey and two juvenile Bobcats. Catching some nice fish and relaxing in the Great Southwest! It just don't get any better. fish

Great day Chuck ! That's cool that you caught some tilapia
on rod and reel. I've gone after them at Calaveras with a
cast net. Great eating fish. But I would rather catch them
on rod and reel. I just thought they were algae eaters.

Awesome post Chuck! The Southwest Hill Country is on my spring places to fish list this upcoming year. Already have my kayak rout planned!

Side Note: Have you seen any of the takeout points along the Frio and Nueces Rivers?
