Trophy Rios and Rios in general were hard to find and this years Rio bite for me was way off compared to the past couple of years. I really had to look for em. Hill Country Rivers,Southwest Rivers, central Texas Creeks with good current, and a couple of Hill Country lakes provided some good solid Rios. The Guadalupe River including all of the river lakes yielded very few Rios. This was due to the May floods and the cooler water temperatures that was a result of all the water being let out of Canyon Lake during the summer. Hopefully no more flooding will occur but according to long range forecast it is going to be one very wet and cold fall/winter. The Rio bite is fixing to end this year once the first major cold front arrives. Right now the Rios and the Sunfish are very active looking to fill up on food before the colder weather sets in. Here are some very resent Rios that I caught this fall. With all of the rain being forecast this fall/winter,spring fishing should be "OUTSTANDING"! Catching some fall Rios. It just don't get any better. fish

Yeah I went to my local creek where I first found Rios and it has totally changed with the central Texas flooding.

Several creeks where I fish in the San Antonio area were filled with Rios. You could go out any given day and catch 9 to 10" Rios. Since last May's flood the Rios have simply vanished from those creeks. Major flooding does take it's toll on the fishing. The creeks should make a come back. thumb

I have seen 2 12" rio's caught this year on the San Marcos...I think Martindale area??? but that's very likely a low number compared to other years. Both anglers fish almost daily to boot so they are constantly on the water. I agree with Chuck to much water can be every bit as if not more detrimental as no water flow. Ashley and I were just discussing this issue today how the 2012 2013 years were just amazing and looking like they were NOT! the norm. I vote we lower Dunlap 6' again lol even I could catch fish back then.

Thanks Kent for the reply! Love the rain but to much puts a negative on the fishing for sure! On a good note like I have said before,if there is no more MAJOR FLOODING we should have a super 2016 fishing season. rockon

Love those Rios! Despite the river lakes looks like you still had a pretty good Rio season! Good job on finding some nice ones.

Side Note: How do you think the bite will be next year?

Thanks "Gitter" for the reply! cheers If we do not get a severe winter and it does not flood we should have one heck of a Rio season next year! coolio

Side Note: Still catching a few in November. Mike "USMC-GY caught a nice 10.50" Rio on the Guadalupe the other day! dance2

Super post post Chuck on recapping your Rio season. Looks like you were able to still find some nice ones. Good job. woot Me and Jeff are still catching a few on Mcqueeney. woot Will not belong until the season is over until next spring.

Side Note: What in your opinion was the most negative thing about catching Rios this year. Also the most positive. Just wondering.

Thanks Curtis for the reply! cheers This has been a rough year for me as for catching Rios. I did manage to catch a bunch and lot of them were trophy fish, however it was nothing like the last few years. Rivers and a few creeks were the bodies of water where I was catching em. As for Dunlap and the rest of the river lakes the Rio bite was extremely off. One word "Flooding" played a very negative part in the bite this year. On the positive note if the winter does not get extremely cold we should have a super 2016 Rio bite. rockon

Totally Agree! If the weather conditions are not severe this winter,The 2016 Rio bite should be fantastic!
