My son goes to college at Texas State in San Marcos. I am planning a fishing trip with him this week. I might bring the Kayak but we will likely bank fish and wade fish.

Can anyone provide some good locations to fish in the San Marcos area? He will probably fish conventional tackle and I will probably fly fish. I prefer to fish for sunfish and bass.

Jamie there are several good areas to fish the San Marcus River. The Lulling area has some good bank area and has also got some shallow wading spots. You can Google to pin point the areas. Also there are some bank areas between San Marcus and Lulling that hold some nice Rios. thumb

Side Note: There is also a City Park just off of IH 35 where the San Marcus River runs through it. I have caught some nice Redbreast and Rios there. Good luck. coolio

Anybody else fish the San Marcos River. I'm headed out there tomorrow, so all advise is welcome.

I have fished the San Marcus several times. The park in side the city of San Marcus is good. Can't wade fish and not fly rod friendly. The area around Lulling will be your best bet. If you fish from the yak there is a Kayak trail from the City of San Marcus all the way to Lulling and past Lulling. There are several takeout and put in spots along the way. The Lulling area is also very fly fishing friendly. Bass,Rios, and Sunfish. Hope this helps out some. Good luck.
